Mahmudullah, the victorious skipper of Bangladesh, says that they will take this win but there are a lot of areas they need to improve. Hopes that everyone is happy and thanks the crowd for coming and supporting. Adds that Oman were in the hunt initially. He praises the stand between Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Naim but also admits that they were not up to the mark with the new ball. Feels they need to address that area. Thinks that the bowling in the death overs has been doing good and Bangladesh will have to show improvement with both bat and ball in the first six overs.
Zeeshan Maqsood, the captain of Oman, says that it was a chaseable task after the way they started. Feels that in the last 5-6 overs, they didn't bat well and lost too many wickets. Credits the Bangla bowlers for the way they bowled. Tells that it was not a big margin in the last 5 overs and it's up to the players to get the job done. Adds that there was no crowd pressure and in fact, that was a confidence booster for them. Says that it's cricket and they will try to bounce back and make the home crowd happy. Mentions that they have to see where they went wrong and track that.
SHAKIB AL HASAN IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH! He says that losing to Scotland hurt the whole team but credits the way the Scots played. Adds that Scotland showed a lot of confidence and he feels that Bangladesh let the game slip away in the first game. Says that the team talk was slightly tough and they wanted to come back stronger. Praises Oman and reckons that they were in the game but feels that Bangladesh's experience played a part. On Oman, Shakib feels that they were in the game for 15 overs and they played with a lot of heart. Tells that Bangladesh have another game that they need to win and they want to beat Papua New Guinea and see what happens.
Presentation time...
Earlier in the match, Bangladesh's decision to bat first didn't turn out to be too fruitful. Barring the knocks of Mohammad Naim and Shakib Al Hasan and their 80-run association, there wasn't much in their batting. Mahmudullah played a little cameo to push their score beyond the 150-run mark but it wasn't the kind of performance Bangladesh would have expected. Oman were brilliant with the ball with Bilal Khan and Fayyaz Butt bagging three wickets apiece but they were below-par in the field and dropped quite a few catches. In hindsight, that cost them 20-25 runs extra and proved to be their undoing.
To start with, Bangladesh were clumsy in the field. Oman started positively and they were assisted by a few dropped catches. Jatinder Singh was the focal point of Oman's batting and his knock along with a couple of partnerships constructed by him laid a good platform for the hosts. At the halfway mark, they needed 84 runs off 60 balls with 8 wickets in the bag. The equation narrowed down to 64 required off 42 balls when Jatinder Singh was dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan but from there on Bangladesh did well to tighten the noose. Mahedi Hasan's four overs of gold in which he gave away just 14 runs completely squeezed the life out of this chase and Oman eventually surrendered.
Victory for Bangladesh and they stay alive in the tournament! They were given a real scare by Oman in the first 10 overs but eventually, the home team's lack of experience in taking advantage of a good position cost them. Still, you have to praise Oman for putting up a fight against a better team.
