The Champions Trophy is coming back after a long. This prestigious tournament was set to be hosted by Pakistan but there are certain changes happened a few times ago. According to sources, the tournament will be played in a hybrid format in the UAE. The tournament is scheduled to happen in 2025. Now, that is an interesting change
Champions Trophy 2025 in Hybrid Model:
Pakistan was set to host any ICC tournament after 29 years. But that plan got interrupted. According to sources, the tournament will be played in UAE in a hybrid model. The matches will be distributed between Pakistan and UAE. The same thing happened in the Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan was hosting the tournament but it was played in a hybrid model because of the political tension between India and Pakistan.
The ninth edition of the Champions Trophy will be played from February to March 2025. According to some reports, “ Dubai is set to host the Champions Trophy or hybrid model if the Indian Government doesn’t change the stance.”
More About the Tournament:
PCB is trying hard to get the Men in Blue in their country. However, due to safety reasons, the Indian Government is not allowing them to travel to the neighboring country. Due to this reason, India has not traveled to Pakistan for the past 16 years. PCB asked ICC to provide security to the Indian team if they travel to the country.
According to some sources, Pakistan will be hosting the tournament but they are yet to sign the hosting agreement. PCB chiefs are meeting ICC executives to solve the issues. The source said, “ Pakistani officials discussed the probability of the Indian Board (BCCI) again refusing to send its team to Pakistan and made it clear that in any given situation the ICC must avoid taking unilateral decisions on the tournament.”
PCB also asked for financial compensation if India doesn’t travel to Pakistan. Teams like Australia, England, and New Zealand traveled to Pakistan to play. The Asia Cup was also played in the hybrid model. The tournament was played in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. India played all their matches in Sri Lanka.
