The IPL 2024 auction is all set to take place on December 19 in Dubai, the first time when an IPL auction will be held outside India. The reading window for all the IPL franchises will close prior to one week of the auction, i.e. December 12. Last Sunday, with the announcement of the retention list of all the franchises, a number of players have been released as well, either due to underwhelming performances or following several retirements.

CSK’s bid following Rayudu’s retirement

The list of released players for Chennai Super Kings also included the name of Ambati Rayudu, following his retirement after having played IPL for 23 years now. Recently in a video released by CSK, CEO Kasi Viswanathan opened up about finding replacements for the 38-year old cricketer but unfortunately they couldn’t get in through. Rayudu was a potential player for the team and his absence now needs to be filled with someone who has the ability to make a difference.

Viswanathan remarked in the video, “We have done only one trade in the last 15 years. That is for Robin Uthappa. We did look out for some players as replacement for Ambati Rayudu, but we could not get it. A slot has to be filled. We will look to fill up that slot with some youngsters if we are not able to get an experienced player.”

Rayudu’s excellent IPL career

Ambati Rayudu made his IPL debut in the year 2010 with Mumbai Indians. He has been a part of the MI Paltan for seven years and won the title 3 times, in 2010, 2015 and 2017 respectively. He then moved to CSK where he won his maiden title in the year 2018 and continued to be a part of the winning team for two more years, in 2021 and 2023.
