In a thrilling encounter between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 4, GT’s Director of Cricket, Vikram Solanki, expressed disappointment in his team’s performance, stating that they should have defended their total of 200 runs against PBKS. Explore coach Vikram Solanki’s insights on Gujarat Titans’ defeat against PBKS.

Despite a strong start by GT, with Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 89 off 48 balls leading them to a competitive total of 199/4, PBKS managed to chase down the target. PBKS’ Shashank Singh played a crucial role with his unbeaten 61 off 29 balls, steering his team to victory by three wickets in a last-over thriller.

Solanki, speaking at a press conference after the match, acknowledged that while GT did well in parts, they let themselves down in certain aspects of the game, particularly in fielding. He praised the ground fielding but noted that some missed chances cost them the match.

Solanki said

“The other team is here to play as well. The other teams are here to compete as well. We probably should have defended 200. We were in a good position. We probably let ourselves down in certain aspects of the game. We fielded very well in parts. I thought the ground fielding was outstanding, but we put some chances down. But you’re right, we should have defended it,” said Solanki.

Looking ahead, GT will face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium on April 7. PBKS, on the other hand, will play their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at home on April 9.

The match between GT and PBKS showcased the unpredictability and excitement of T20 cricket, with both teams fighting hard until the last ball. As the IPL 2024 season progresses, fans can expect more thrilling encounters and close finishes.
