Gujarat Titans have secured the services of former KKR fast bowler as a replacement for the injured Mohammed Shami in the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Shami recently underwent successful surgery for a right heel problem and is currently on the path to recovery. His absence from competitive cricket since last year’s ODI World Cup final has prompted the Titans to seek a suitable replacement, and they have chosen Warrier for the job.
Warrier, a seasoned campaigner in the Indian domestic circuit, brings valuable experience to the Titans’ bowling lineup. Warrier, who has played five IPL matches so far, will join the Gujarat Titans for a base price of INR 50 lakh. The 32-year-old bowler has a modest IPL record, having picked up two wickets at an economy rate of 7.88. Despite limited IPL experience, Warrier brings depth and variety to the Titans’ fast bowling lineup.
Sandeep Warrier said
Speaking about his new role, Warrier expressed his excitement, saying, “I am thrilled to join Gujarat Titans for the upcoming IPL season. It’s a great opportunity for me to contribute to the team’s success and showcase my skills on a big stage.”
Warrier, who has previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians in the IPL, has featured in five matches in the tournament so far. Known for his ability to swing the ball both ways, Warrier adds variety to the Titans’ bowling options.
Commenting on the signing, a spokesperson for Gujarat Titans said, “We are delighted to have Sandeep Warrier on board. His experience and skill set make him a valuable addition to our squad, especially in the absence of Mohammed Shami. We are confident that he will make a significant impact in the upcoming season.”
The Titans will also be without the services of Matthew Wade for their first two games, as the Australian keeper-batter is set to represent Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield final. However, the team remains optimistic about their prospects, with Shubman Gill leading the side following Hardik Pandya‘s departure to Mumbai Indians.
Gujarat Titans will kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 24, and Warrier is expected to play a key role in their quest for success in the tournament.
