With the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup, entire attention now looms over the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in the year 2024. The ongoing IND vs AUS T20 series is being led by Suryakumar Yadav in the absence of Hardik Pandya who is unfit, while other senior players have been put to rest after their hectic World Cup schedule. 

Next month, India tour of South Africa will kick off a 3-match T20 series which will commence from December 10.The month long-tour will conclude with a two-match Test Series from December 26. Ahead of the T20 series which presumes important in regard to the upcoming T20 World Cup, the management now needs to decide on the composition of the team. The squad of Team India will likely be announced tomorrow for the T20 series against South Africa. 

Kohli and Rohit’s T20 fate

While Virat Kohli had informed BCCI about skipping the T20 series against South Africa owing to a much needed break, Kohli will certainly return for the Test Series later in the month of December. With Kohli, Rohit Sharma might be also missing the T20 series due to the fact that Rohit did not play any of the T20 matches since the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2022. The skipper seems to have shifted his focus to the ODIs and due to this reason, he will join Team India in the Test series only along with Virat Kohli. 

Awaiting discussions

Pragyan Ojha, member of former IPL Governing Council remarked that the team management i.e Ajit Agarkar led committee will engage in discussions with both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to decide on their T20 stint. Following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, the committee has given full freedom to Rohit and Kohli to decide on their T20 future and the upcoming T20 World Cup.
