Whereas Mahendra Singh Dhoni is set to join Chennai Super Kings on August 16, the South African duo of the squad will be joining their team on September 1 as per the report. The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League will begin on September 19 in UAE.

Players to join the team soon

According to a report in Times of India, Faf du Plessis and Lungi Ngidi will join CSK on September 1. This means they will have enough time to get accustomed to the situation in the UAE before hitting the ground for their team in IPL 2020. Faf du Plessis is expecting the birth of his second child and then he will fly along with Ngidi to UAE. Shane Watson, head coach Stephen Fleming, and batting coach Mike Hussey will arrive by August 22. But few foreigners like Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner, and Imran Tahir might miss a couple of initial matches as they will be busy in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) till September 10. For the England vs Australia ODI series Josh Hazlewood and Sam Curran are also going to miss a few matches.

While speaking about preparations, CSK’s bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji said, “We will look to continue from where we left off in March. The key to success in the IPL is to perform collectively. Our aim will be to regroup as a team and start our preparations. But each player will have their own different routines and formula to prepare for the tournament. The idea is to give them enough space and freedom to understand their body and find their rhythm before coming together as a group.”

Dhoni to join CSK camp

The CSK management is keen to hold a small camp from August 16 to 20. This means Mahendra Singh Dhoni who joined the team camp in March before the COVID-19 issue, will be hitting the ground on August 16. Dhoni was seen training at the nets in Ranchi but will now participate in a 15-member training camp organized by the CSK, as per the reports.

“We want to have a camp in Chennai from August 16 till 20th,” Kasi Viswanathan, the Super Kings chief executive officer, told ESPNcricinfo. “We have applied to the Tamil Nadu government for permission. Orally they have said yes, but we have still not got the written letter of approval. If the written approval comes we are planning for a camp for the Indian players alone.”
