Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad are facing each other for the second time this season in Match 40. SRH skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bat first. However, this game is marred by the absence of star spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar.

Why is Washington Sundar not playing today?

In a setback for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Captain Aiden Markram expressed his grief on missing Sundar and mentioned that it was a great loss for the team, especially after his last match heroics.

“Washy a big loss for us. But it’s an opportunity for someone to cement their spot in the team.”, Markram said after winning the toss and deciding to bat first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Sundar, who had played seven matches for SRH this season, had been in good form with both bat and ball. In his last outing against the Delhi Capitals, he had claimed three wickets and scored 24 runs off just 15 balls. However, despite his heroics, SRH had lost the match.

The absence of Sundar is a big blow to SRH’s campaign as he was a vital cog in their team. In his absence, Abdul Samad has been included in the playing XI for today’s match against Delhi Capitals. Additionally, Akeal Hosein is set to make his debut for SRH. “Akeal Hosein makes his debut for us. Abdul Samad also comes into the XI.”, Markram informed at the time of the toss.

SRH, who are currently placed at the 9th spot in the points table, will be hoping to turn their fortunes around in the remaining matches of the tournament. However, the loss of Sundar is definitely a setback for the team’s aspirations.
