Team India registered a brilliant win against Australia in the first match of the 5-match T20I series against Australia held at Visakhapatnam, Orissa. After having won the toss, India chose to field first with Australia coming down on a great show and posting 208 in 20 overs. Josh Inglis, after a wonderful campaign in the World Cup, proved his potential in the 20-over format too, smashing a 110-run century off 50 deliveries followed by Steve Smith who scored 52 runs.

Nevertheless, even after Australia posted 208 runs in just 20 overs, India emerged stronger than ever with its bowlers and batsmen who performed exceptionally to secure a 2-wicket win with one ball to spare. The win against Australia after a soul crushing defeat in the 2023 World Cup Final had an impact of relaxation on Indian fans but of course a T20I series match is never enough to compensate for a World Cup loss, that too in the finals.

Power-hitting innings!

While team India’s openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad departed early with Jaiswal smashing 21 runs out of just 8 balls, Ishan Kishan gave the much needed start to his team and smashed 58 runs off 39 balls. The brilliant start by Ishan Kishan put the team ahead with their run chase and helped Suryakumar Yadav to play an extraordinary knock. They partnered significantly with Surya registering 80 runs for 42 deliveries at a strike rate of 190.48. When Surya departed, India saw continuous fall of wickets but Rinku Singh essentially took the whole responsibility in his hands and finished off the match by hitting a six when India needed a single run in just one ball.

Ishan Kishan had some different plans

During the post match presentation, Ishan Kishan revealed that he had an intent to challenge the Australian bowler, Tanveer Sangha. He wanted to take a dig at Australia’s bowling attack, and particularly Sangha in it. While speaking about his plans he had already discussed with Suryakumar Yadav beforehand, Ishan remarked “I had a chat with Surya bhai. I am gonna take this guy down wherever he bowls because we need to close the gap between runs and balls. You can’t leave too many runs for the batters at the back. It won’t be easy for them to play the big shots straight away. I had to take my chances and I believed in myself.”
