India are currently playing the third and final Test against South Africa. Meanwhile, the selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma selected the squad for India’s next assignment in South Africa, the ODI series. Jayant Yadav replaced Washington Sundar in the squad.
Washington Sundar was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against South Africa after testing positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday. In his place, Jayan Yadav got the nod to fly to South Africa for the same. The five-member selection panel, headed by former India pacer Chetan Sharma, released a statement today saying, “Team India off-spinner Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the forthcoming ODI series against South Africa after testing positive for COVID-19 during the camp in Bengaluru.”
The BCCI added, “Sundar was supposed to travel to Cape Town with the ODI members on Wednesday and join the rest of the squad ahead of the ODI series starting January 19th.”
On the other hand, pacer Navdeep Saini was also added as a backup for Mohammed Siraj who is also recovering from an injury in hamstring. He sustained the same during the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg. India’s ODI series against South Africa is set to begin with a fixture in in Paarl on January 19. The second ODI is scheduled at the same venue on January 21, followed by the third and final game on January 23 in Cape Town.
The third Test meanwhile in Cape Town saw Indian getting all out for 223 in the first innings. Indian bowlers are at present trying to stop South Africa for a low score.
