Match 32, Birmingham, August 15, 2024, 07:30 PM

Birmingham Phoenix Women
98/2(14.0ov)
Manchester Originals Women

Match Abandoned

Right then, that is it as the last league game of the Women's Hundred 2024 has been abandoned due to rain. However, the focus now shifts to the Men's Competition where Manchester Originals and Birmingham Phoenix go up against each other, and a lot is at stake in that game. As the game is scheduled to be played in the same stadium, the weather forecasts look a bit gloomy, but one point will do it for the hosts. Although, we hope that we get to see the teams compete on the field. That game will begin in a short while and you can just switch tabs to enjoy all the build-up to that match. Cheers!
Bad news folks! The inevitable has happened and the game has been called off. Both teams will be disappointed as even though, they were knocked out, they would have loved to finish the season with a win. Just as when Ellyse Perry changed gears and looked really dangerous to play a big knock, it started raining and we never really got to see any more action. Perry finishes her season with an unbeaten 45 off just 39 balls. Lauren Filer and Phoebe Graham picked up the two wickets that fell before the game was halted. The spoils have been shared here between Birmingham Phoenix Women and Manchester Originals Women and they will want to go back to the drawing board and come back stronger in the next season.
UPDATE - 9.08 pm IST (3.38 pm GMT) - Nothing new to update. The covers are firmly placed as it continues to pour down steadily. We have started to lose balls as well. For a 25-ball match, we still have around an hour to go but for that, we need the skies to clear up. Let's hope for some better news soon.
UPDATE - 8.42 pm IST (3.12 GMT) - It is raining very heavily now in Birmingham and things are looking a bit bleak. Till now, only the hover cover was in place, but now more covers are being put on by the ground staff. It looks like we are in for a longer delay than expected. Even if none of the teams can make it to the playoffs, we hope to get more action and a result as well. Fingers crossed!
Oh..no! The rain has gotten much heavier now and the umpires have given the marching orders to the players. However, there is a lot of wind blowing around the ground, and we hope that this is just a passing shower. The hover cover is coming on and the waiting game begins. Stay tuned for further updates.

FOUR! Jones joins the act now. Slightly short and on middle, sits nicely for Jones who thumps it wide of deep mid-wicket and gets a boundary.

SIX! A full toss angling on middle, Perry hoicks it over square leg for a biggie. A full toss above waist height and it's called a no ball. Free-hit next.
The drizzle is getting a bit heavier but it is not enough to stop the game here.
