Hobart Hurricanes beat Melbourne Renegades by 6 wickets

Right then, that’s it from this game but there’s plenty more action coming your way in the BBL after a short Christmas break. We have two blockbuster games for you on Boxing Day, 26th December. The first game of the day will see the Sydney Sixers take on the Melbourne Stars at the SCG and the game will start at 12.35 pm IST (7.05 am GMT). The second encounter will be between the Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Renegades from Perth. That game will commence at 3.45 pm IST (10.15 am GMT). But as you know, you can always join in early for the build-up. Until then, goodbye and cheers!
Matthew Wade is the Player of the Match for his blistering knock.
Earlier in the day, the Renegades were asked to bat first and they posted an excellent score of 183 in their allotted overs. Joe Clarke and Quinton de Kock got the team off to a flying start before Finch and Wells took the mantle for the latter half of the innings and finished with a fine flourish. Skipper Nathan Ellis and Patrick Dooley were the top performers with the ball snapping two wickets each and going at eight runs to the over while Meredith chipped in with one but was on the expensive side. Hobart Hurricanes will be extremely happy to get off the mark this season as they bag two important points.
The Renegades had a competitive score to defend and they did start well but lost their way in the middle and dished out plenty of loose balls. The Hurricanes pounced on it. Tom Rogers was the pick of the Renegades' bowlers with 2 for 32 in his spell while Mujeeb and Kane Richardson snapped one each. The wickets of Wade and Hain in the space of 6 balls sniffed the Renegades to get back but it wasn't meant to be for them. The Melbourne Renegades have suffered their third loss of the season and are winless in the competition.
An outstanding chase by the Hurricanes sees them beat the Renegades by 6 wickets and with an over to spare in front of their home crowd. The Hurricanes required 184 to win this game and they started poorly in the run chase. Caleb Jewell was dismissed early but Matthew Wade was in some form tonight. He smashed the bowlers all around the park and was in sensational form. Wade and Macalister Wright added a massive 140 for the second wicket and set the game for their side. Mujeeb Ur Rahman broke the stand and removed Wright for a well-made 63 but Wade carried on and made his way through to 50-ball 82 before being dismissed. Tim David and Corey Anderson finished off the game in style and took the Hurricanes to their first win of the season.

Short delivery angling into the batter, David looks to pull it on the leg side but gets hit on the helmet. The physio comes in to follow the concussion protocol. Sutherland appeals for the catch, as the ball hits the helmet and spoons up in the air, the man at point region takes the catch. The umpire turns down the appeal but the fielding team takes the review. Ultra Edge shows no spike on it and it's a NOT OUT.
