The new rule allowing two bouncers per over in IPL 2024 has added a tactical dimension to the game, according to Gujarat Titans all-rounder Vijay Shankar. Shankar, who has been part of the Titans since their inception in 2022, believes the rule puts pressure on both bowlers and batsmen to be strategic in their approach.

Shankar emphasized the need for bowlers to use bouncers wisely, as they cannot rely solely on short-pitched deliveries. He also highlighted the challenge for batsmen, who now have to be prepared for bouncers at any time during an over.

Vijay Shankar talks about two bouncer rule

“As a bowler, you can’t keep bowling that (bouncers). As a batter, if you set up and hit one or two (boundaries), then for a bowler to go to another plan is not easy. So, we need to be smart as a batting unit and be prepared about the different kinds of deliveries one can face in a game,” Shankar said during a virtual press conference.

Shankar also discussed his adaptability in different batting positions, noting that his role is to adapt to various game situations and contribute to the team’s success. He praised the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill and head coach Ashish Nehra, highlighting the positive team environment within the Gujarat Titans.

GT won their opening game of the season against Mumbai Indians but suffered a defeat against Chennai Super Kings in their first away game. They are preparing for their third match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on March 31.

Overall, Shankar believes that clarity in roles and strong team support have helped him perform consistently for the Titans. He remains focused on contributing effectively to the team’s success in the ongoing IPL season.
