Vijay Shankar, the skillful all-rounder for Gujarat Titans, expressed his gratitude towards the team’s former fast bowler, Ashish Nehra, for believing in him and his capabilities despite his disappointing performance during their 2022 campaign. Shankar, who had played only four games in that season, could only manage a meager score of 19 runs.

Nevertheless, Gujarat Titans decided to keep Shankar in their squad, and their faith in him has paid off massively this season. The proficient right-hander has been in exceptional form, amassing 205 runs from nine matches with an outstanding average of 41 and an impressive strike rate of 159, which happens to be his personal best performance in the Indian Premier League to date.

Vijay Shankar lauds Ashish Nehra

In a recent interview with News18, Shankar acknowledged the tremendous impact that Ashish Nehra has had on him and the team. He spoke highly of Nehra’s grounded approach, which creates a magical atmosphere in the Titans’ camp.

“To be very honest, the season that I had last year. And for me to be retained and then play and do well, a lot of credit must go to him. If not for him, I wouldn’t have been playing here. You can actually see that he has played a lot of cricket. Whatever he speaks, he explains and expresses it in such a way that we either understand.”, Shankar said during his interview.

Vijay Shankar on his World Cup chances

It is Nehra’s unassuming demeanor that has helped Shankar to excel and make a significant contribution to the team’s success in the ongoing IPL season. As the ODI World Cup draws closer, fervent chatter among cricket enthusiasts has commenced regarding a potential spot for Vijay Shankar in the squad. The swashbuckling all-rounder’s impeccable ability to strike those mighty sixes certainly adds an electrifying dimension to any team. However, Shankar, who remains humble amidst the hype, has no intention of being distracted by the buzz and is solely focused on improving his work ethic.

“I am not thinking much of it honestly because it’s a long way from here and If I keep doing what I am doing, things will eventually happen. I don’t have to dream of getting into the World Cup team or getting back into the Indian team, I think if you are on the right path, things will happen automatically.”, Shankar further added in his interview.
