Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube, who both impressed with their performances in India‘s recent T20I series against Afghanistan, are expected to be included in the BCCI‘s list of contracted India players for the 2023-24 season. The Mumbai duo’s names were not on the list of 26 India players contracted for the 2022-23 season, but their recent contributions have put them in contention for the upcoming season’s contracts.
Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023 and has since played four Tests, scoring 316 runs at an average of 45.14, including one hundred and one fifty. In T20Is, he has played 16 matches, amassing 498 runs at an impressive strike rate of 163.81 and an average of 35.57.
Shivam Dube, who made a comeback to India’s T20I side in August 2023 after a successful IPL season with Chennai Super Kings, has played 20 T20Is, scoring 275 runs at an average of 45.83 and taking eight wickets at an average of 41.87.
In the recent T20I against Afghanistan, Shivam Dube played a crucial role, smashing a rapid 63 not out off 32 balls to guide India to victory. His aggressive batting style and useful contributions with the ball have made him a valuable asset for the team.
Dube’s development as a bowler has also been noted, with the team management keen on utilizing his bowling skills more in the upcoming matches. His performance in the IPL has been instrumental in his growth as a player, where he scored 418 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 158.33, with three fifties and 35 sixes.
Comparisons with former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh have been drawn due to Dube’s clean hitting ability, a comparison that he finds flattering. Dube credits his development to the guidance and support he received from the Chennai Super Kings team, particularly from the legendary MS Dhoni.
As both players continue to excel in their respective roles, their inclusion in the BCCI’s contracted player list for the upcoming season seems imminent, marking a significant milestone in their careers.
